Project Vasudha
Project Background
To improve the quality of life of the rural population, environmental sanitation needs to be improved. In rural areas, examples of solid waste include wastes from kitchens, gardens, cattle sheds, agriculture, and materials such as metal, paper, plastic, cloth, glass, and so on.
Traditionally in many villages, there was no proper waste collection, organic waste used to be given to domestic animals and there was very less dry waste. The good transportation facility to reach urban areas, educational awareness, and increase in the earning capacity of rural people has seen improvement in all facilities of rural areas.
The impact of the living standard of urban people attracts the rural people leading to generating village solid waste. Villages have become a growing market for the retail industry resulting in an increase in waste generation. At the same time, the disposal of this waste has been creating a problem for the local panchayat.
This project is to make the villages Smart, and waste management plays a big role in the scheme. Organic waste and plastic waste create problems for rural India. The waste may not be picked up, and if it is then usually it is in the mixed form, which is either dumped or burned. That creates problems for the environment and air pollution, and land pollution.

Objectives
- Reduce waste / use waste as a resource - Waste is a useful resource that can be converted into energy that can be used locally.
- Energy Requirement – Villages can use the energy produced by organic and plastic waste for streetlights and other equipment.
- Employment creation – Local employment will be generated in the form of waste collectors, segregators, operators, and maintenance staff.
- Women upliftment – The project encourages female employment as the operations are suitable for women as well.
